Communications Writer

The communications division of the Tennessee Supreme Court/Administrative Office of the Courts in Nashville is seeking a strong writer to utilize a variety of communication formats to engage judges, policymakers, and the public on the work of Tennessee’s third branch of government/judiciary.  The ideal candidate will have a strong writing background and will be able to produce long-form, complex stories; short, compelling copy; dynamic graphs, infographics, and visuals; as well as other storytelling formats.  In addition to regular articles on high-profile legal cases, rule changes, and actions of the Tennessee Supreme Court, the AOC is also involved in multiple social and policy related issues, including the opioid epidemic, human trafficking, and indigent representation in the court system, juvenile justice reform, access to justice and pro bono work, and more.  Candidates must be able to balance multiple projects and must be able to thoroughly develop story ideas from start to finish.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or related field, and a minimum of two years’ experience at a print media outlet, or similar fast-paced environment. Outstanding writing and editing skills required. Additional skills in photography, basic graphic design, and social media are a plus. Candidate must possess a professional attitude and presence as there is extensive contact with judges, policymakers, media, and public officials.
