Legal Assistant – Investigations and Litigation

The Board of Professional Responsibility has an opening for a Legal Assistant who will provide support in the Investigations and Litigation sections of the Office of Disciplinary Counsel.  This position is located in Brentwood and is under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Disciplinary Counsel.

Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Disciplinary Counsel, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for assisting two (2) attorneys.  For the investigative attorney, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for keeping correspondence current; preparing reports; assisting with filing and scanning tasks as assigned; tasking deadlines; and other duties as assigned.  For the litigation attorney, the Legal Assistant will be responsible for a variety of word processing duties, including drafting legal documents and reports; keeping deadlines current and tasking on the litigator’s calendar; preparation and copying of large documents; trial preparation duties; and other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:  Graduation from an accredited high school and at least five (5) years’ experience as a full-time secretary or administrative assistant or educational equivalent such as Paralegal Certification, Associate’s degree in Paralegal or Legal Assistant Studies, or current Certified Professional Secretary designation.  Experience in a legal office is preferred.

Skills and Ability:  The Legal Assistant should be proficient in computer and word processing skills, including Microsoft Office and Word; have a knowledge of administrative principles, legal practices and terminology, and office practices and procedures; have the ability to prioritize work according to general deadlines; and have the ability to maintain confidences due to the highly confidential nature of the work of the Board.
