The Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program is seeking applicants for the Coordinator of Education and Outreach.
Qualifications: Position requires (1) experience or training in alcohol and chemical dependency, intervention, mental health issues, (2) strong public speaking and leadership skills (3) an understanding of, or experience with, 12-step programs; and (4) LCSW, LPC or other comparable counseling licensure and/or a licensed attorney. Applicant must be flexible, organized, empathetic, an initiator, and a team player. Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Position requires extensive travel throughout Tennessee with base operation in Nashville.

The Court of the Judiciary is seeking a qualified person for the position of Disciplinary Counsel. The Court of the Judiciary is given broad powers to investigate, hear and determine charges sufficient to warrant discipline or removal of Tennessee Judges. Included within the jurisdiction of the Court of Judiciary are all appellate, trial, general sessions, probate, juvenile, and municipal judges. The Court of the Judiciary has jurisdiction over not only judges, but also judicial candidates. Chief Disciplinary Counsel “shall serve at the pleasure of the court” and subject to the Court’s direction pursuant to T.C.A. § 17-5-301(d).
The Disciplinary Counsel has the authority and duty to:
Receive and screen complaints, refer complaints to other agencies when appropriate, conduct preliminary investigations, recommend to the investigative panel of the court and, upon authorization, conduct full investigations, notify complainants about the status and disposition of their complaints, make recommendations to the investigative panel on the disposition of complaints after full investigation, file formal charges subject to approval of the investigative panel when directed to do so by the investigative panel, and prosecute formal charges;
Maintain permanent records of the operations of disciplinary counsel's office, including receipt of complaints, screening, investigation, and filing of formal charges in judicial discipline and incapacity matters;
Draft decisions, orders, reports, and other documents on behalf of the hearing and investigative panels if directed by the court;
Compile statistics to aid in the administration of the system, including, but not limited to a log of all complaints received, investigative files, and, statistical summaries of docket processing and case dispositions.
Statewide travel is likely with the investigation of complaints and the prosecution of formal charges. Funding for office space, additional staff, and travel expenses are included in the contract. Once appointed, Chief Disciplinary Counsel is encouraged to provide and/or participate in educational programs for judicial conferences, as well as the Bar.
The disciplinary counsel is not an employee of the State of Tennessee. Services and expenses including office space and the services of additional staff are compensated through a personal services contract for an amount fixed by the court.
Applicants must be licensed attorneys in Tennessee in good standing in their community and have practiced law or held a judicial position for a minimum ten (10) years. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of the laws of this State and a working knowledge of the court systems. Significant trial experience is preferred, along with experience in reviewing judicial ethics violations or in attorney disciplinary cases.
