Three Branches of Government Join to Help End Hunger in Tennessee

Today, the Administrative Office of the Courts joined the state’s executive and legislative branches at Nashville’s War Memorial Auditorium for the Third Annual Campaign against Hunger Community Service Project, hosted by the General Assembly’s “Nutrition Caucus,” and organized by Tennessee Senator Mark Norris. Governor Bill Haslam personally thanked all volunteers at the event.

“We were so honored to be able to once again partner with the other two branches of government to stop hunger in our state,” said Deborah Taylor Tate, AOC Director.  “This is just one small way in which we are truly the volunteer state, working together for our great citizens, and I applaud Senator Mark Norris for organizing this amazing effort.”

Volunteers from the three branches packed 50,000 meals in 90 minutes. The meals will be shipped to each of the five food banks across the state, which serve all of Tennessee’s 95 counties.

Once again, the groups worked with Outreach, Inc. which has helped pack more than 600,000 meals in similar fashion all over the United States over the past five years. The founders, Floyd Hammer and Kathy Hamilton, who recently received the 5,000th Point of Light Award in the program started by President George H.W. Bush in 1990, were also in attendance at today’s event.
