CLE Associate Director

The Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education is seeking applicants for the position of Associate Director. Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Associate Director is responsible for administrative, managerial and supervisory work of moderate difficulty and performs related work as required. The Associate Director follows organizational policies and procedures and must carry out the agency’s focus on reliability, attendance and high-performance standards.


  1. Have experience drafting rules and other legal documents.
  2. Have the ability to analyze complex situations and offer alternative solutions.
  3. Have a customer relations focus and exhibit quality customer service.
  4. Provide day-to-day supervision and management of Commission's staff and resources.
  5. Supervise accreditation of MCLE Courses, relations with CLE Providers, attendance posting, attorney and provider communications, and other day-to-day aspects of MCLE compliance.
  6. Maintain agency’s electronic database of attorney records, reports and other files.
  7. Track and monitor attorney MCLE attendance and compliance using the Commission’s MCLE tracking system with particular focus on Tennessee licensed attorneys.
  8. Supervise the operation of the compliance process, including communications with individual attorneys as needed to assist them in fulfilling Tennessee MCLE requirements.
  9. Assist the Executive Director as needed with other projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Expertise with financial and organizational management, including budgets and financial projections.

     Education and/or Experience: 

  • Law degree and Tennessee law license for a minimum of five years.
  • Minimum of Five year’s work experience.
  • Law firm experience or regulatory experience desired.
  • Prior litigation experience desired.


  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft 365 Office Suite including Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Outlook electronic mail system.

     Skills and Ability:

  • Must exhibit high-level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be reliable, trustworthy and have a dedication to quality work.
  • Ability to establish sound working relationships; with Staff, Commission, Court staff, Attorneys and Providers.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Detail & deadline oriented.
  • Well organized.
