Navigating Dependency and Neglect Cases

Event Description

This session provides an overview of the Tennessee juvenile court system and its role in addressing dependency and neglect cases. Participants will explore key topics, including statutory definitions, the legal framework under federal and state laws, and the roles of judges, attorneys, and the Department of Children's Services. The course examines the progression of cases through key hearings, legal standards, and burdens of proof, emphasizing the balance between parental rights and the best interests of the child. It also addresses the rights of foster parents and their role in the child welfare process. By the end, attendees will gain practical knowledge to navigate juvenile court proceedings and advocate effectively for children and families.
