This 90-minute virtual CLE provides Tennessee dependency and neglect practitioners with substantive instruction regarding severe child abuse litigation following Public Chapter 613 and recent Tennessee appellate decisions. The course reviews the statutory framework governing severe child abuse under T.C.A. §§ 37-1-102, 37-1-129, 37-1-130, and 36-1-113(g)(4), including required adjudicatory findings, “cannot be excluded” determinations, return-home restrictions, reasonable efforts implications, and termination of parental rights considerations. Participants also examine litigation involving drug exposure, serious bodily injury, failure to protect allegations, evidentiary standards, and expert testimony issues in severe abuse proceedings. The final thirty minutes of the CLE consists of a moderated panel discussion featuring practicing dependency attorneys addressing practical litigation strategy in severe child abuse cases.
This course has been approved for 1.5 general CLE hours.
