Staff Attorney - Tennessee Supreme Court

The Tennessee Supreme Court is seeking a qualified person for the position of Staff Attorney.  This position requires advanced legal research for the Supreme Court.

The Staff Attorney is responsible for the screening of applications filed under Rules 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 of the Tennessee Rules of Appellate Procedure; screening of motions for review filed in workers' compensation appeals; screening of requests for certified questions of law filed pursuant to Rule 23, Rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court; screening of motions to assume jurisdiction filed pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated section 16-3-201 and Rule 46, Rules of the Tennessee Supreme Court; and screening of procedural motions filed in cases pending before the Tennessee Supreme Court.  In addition to the foregoing routine duties, the Staff Attorney is also responsible for assisting with special projects assigned by the justices.

Qualifications: To qualify applicants must have graduated from law school and possess a valid Tennessee Law License.  A minimum of five years of legal experience is required and substantial criminal law experience is preferred.  The attorney in this position will also be responsible for handling matters from the Board of Professional Responsibility.
