Termination of Parental Rights & Adoption

Event Description

This CLE session, hosted by the Tennessee Court Improvement Program, and delivered by attorney Meredith Brassfield, provides an in-depth training on the legal framework, procedures, and evolving statutory requirements related to termination of parental rights (TPR) and adoption in Tennessee. The session covers both voluntary and involuntary TPR proceedings under Tennessee Code Annotated § 36-1-113 and related provisions, including grounds for termination, surrender and revocation protocols, parental consents, best interest factors, and adoption finalization requirements. The training is designed to equip juvenile court practitioners—attorneys, judges, and agency staff—with the practical tools and statutory knowledge to ethically and effectively navigate TPR and adoption cases. The session incorporates statutory updates, procedural checklists, and applies case examples to promote fidelity to law and best practice in permanency proceedings.

This course has been approved for 1.5 general CLE hours.
