Child Support Workshop

In the first hour of this two-hour workshop (1:00 – 2:00 p.m.), practicing attorney Julie D. Eisenhower will address Important Facts and Common Fallacies in Child Support cases.   Child support is often the most difficult part of designing a parenting plan, and the one that most often brings single parents into the legal system.   This program will focus on the proper determination of parents' child support obligation, and will practice using the Child Support Worksheet.   The program will further explore the mechanics of, and common misconceptions about, the child support process.  Atty. Julie D. Eisenhower is a practicing attorney focusing on cases related to family and juvenile law.  Before entering private practice, she served as an Assistant District Attorney General in the Ninth Judicial District Child Support Division.   With this background, she is well-versed in both the technical and practical aspects of the complex topic of child support law and its impact on children, parents, and caregivers.

After a 15 minute break, the second hour of the workshop (2:15-3:15 p.m.) will consist of a panel presentation on Child Support in Dependency and Neglect Cases.  The parent's financial support of his or her child is an important component in managing a dependency and neglect case.   The panelists will examine the statutory guidelines and public policy pertinent to setting and modifying a child support obligation in both non-custodial plans and DCS family permanency plans.   They will also explore designing a child support plan that serves the child's best interests while maintaining compliance with the guidelines.   The panel will also discuss the child support office procedures and policies for enforcing the parents' obligations.   The panel will consist of Attorney Julie D. Eisenhower, whose credentials have been set forth above, James Karney, a Rule 31 Family Mediator who specializes in temporary custody cases and developing effective non-custodial agreements between the caregivers and the biological parents, and Darrell Sproles, a practicing attorney and experienced guardian ad litem who regularly works with dependency and neglect cases, both with and without DCS involvement.
