Morristown, Tenn. – For the ninth consecutive year, Chancellor Thomas “Skip” Frierson will open the Morristown courthouse doors on a Saturday for a special ceremony to celebrate local adoptions.
In honor of National Adoption Day, Frierson will be finalizing the adoptions of 10 children at the Hamblen County Courthouse on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 9 a.m. Each adopted child will be presented with a special certificate, a stuffed bunny, a balloon and a picture frame to hold a photo taken with their new family and the chancellor.
“In my role as judge, there is no greater joy than helping unite new families through adoption,” Frierson said. “As the father of three adopted children, it’s truly a pleasure to play a small role in making this day special for the children and their new families.”
After Saturday’s ceremony, Frierson will have finalized 82 adoptions through this annual event.
“Hosting a National Adoption Day event every year has been a wonderful way to highlight the need to bring permanency into lives of the hundreds of thousands of children in foster care and orphanages here and abroad,” Frierson said.
National Adoption Day was designed to raise awareness about the 107,000 children nationally who are available for adoption. In Tennessee alone, there are more than 7,200 children in foster care who are waiting to find permanent families.
