Disciplinary Counsel – Litigation Section - Appeals

Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Disciplinary Counsel – Litigation and the Chief Disciplinary Counsel, litigates attorney disciplinary matters before hearing panels and special judges in trial courts.  Prepares and briefs cases for appeal to the Tennessee Supreme Court.  Conducts oral argument of appeals to the Tennessee Supreme Court as needed.  Prepares and presents ethics continuing legal education. A hybrid (in office and remote) work schedule is available for this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

•    Investigate and conduct discovery related to complaints of attorney misconduct.

•    Prepare pleadings and appear in disciplinary hearings before hearing panels.

•    Represent the Board in appellate proceedings before special judges in trial courts and the Tennessee Supreme Court.

•    Serve on the Charging Committee.

•    Prepare and present ethics continuing legal education seminars; and

•    Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  Attorney licensed in Tennessee with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in the practice of law.  Must have significant experience in appellate advocacy.  Practice before the Tennessee Supreme Court preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITY:  Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to handle difficult people or highly emotional situations with diplomacy and efficiency are necessary.
