Legal Assistant – Litigation Section TN Board of Professional Responsibility

Under general supervision this position is responsible for secretarial support and administrative assistance work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Creates and maintains effective filing and tracking systems, including but not limited to calendaring deadlines and maintaining task lists for case activity
  • Performs various word processing duties using Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and other software
  • Drafts, proofreads and files legal documents
  • Prepares subpoenas
  • Makes travel arrangements and enters travel expenses for attorney related to disciplinary hearings, court appearances, and seminars
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties involving information compilation, monitoring, liaison work, and providing public information
  • Conveys and receives information to and from staff, attorneys, Courts, and the general public, in person, by telephone, and by correspondence
  • Maintains databases as assigned; maintains various lists; verifies data entry and produces reports as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: College degree and minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a full-time legal assistant. Paralegal Certification, associate degree in Paralegal or Legal Assistant Studies preferred.
SKILLS AND ABILITY: Knowledge of administrative principles, legal practices and terminology, office practices and procedures; ability to prioritize work according to general deadlines; proficiency in computer and word processing skills, including Microsoft Office; ability to maintain confidence due to the highly confidential nature of the work of the Board.  
Candidates who are selected as finalists will be asked to complete several tasks to demonstrate competency and skill.
