Senior Law Clerk Tennessee Court of Appeals, Middle Section TN Supreme Court

Tennessee Court of Appeals in the Middle Section is seeking a qualified person for the position of Senior Law Clerk for Judge W. Neal McBrayer. The senior law clerk supports the judge by performing administrative tasks as required and by conducting legal research and preparing legal memoranda, orders, and draft opinions.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Judge.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
1.    Research issues of federal and state law.
2.    Draft legal memoranda, opinions, and orders.
3.    Prepare the Judge for oral argument.
4.    Assist the Judge with case and staff management.
5.    Generally, provide legal counsel and support to the Judge
6.    Exhibit the highest standards of excellence and integrity.

QUALIFICATIONS:  
Education and/or Experience: Graduation from a law school. Prior judicial clerkship experience or experience on the editorial board of a law review preferred.
Skills and Ability: Exhibit good judgment and good analytical skills; demonstrate initiative; possess a strong work ethic; maintain a professional appearance and demeanor; work quickly and harmoniously with others in a team-based environment; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and exercise discretion in handling confidential matters.    
Licensure and Certification Requirements:  Possession of a Certificate of Admission to the Bar of the State of Tennessee.
