Federal Judge Julia Smith Gibbons, United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, was recently honored with a portrait unveiling in Memphis.
The Memphis Mid-South Chapter of the Federal Bar Association (FBA) presented her portrait to the thirtieth Judicial District Circuit Court of Tennessee, at the Shelby County Courthouse.
The portrait location is fitting since then Tennessee Governor Lamar Alexander appointed Judge Gibbons to the Tennessee Circuit Court for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit (now the 30th judicial district – Shelby County) in 1981, making her the first female trial judge in the state.
The Daily Memphian covered the event. Read more here.
