More than 140 mediators attended the 9th Annual Advanced Mediation Techniques Workshop hosted by the Supreme Court Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Commission last Friday at Lipscomb University. An additional 50 mediators participated through a live internet feed of the event.
The event kicked off with a welcome from Justice Sharon Lee, who also participated in the workshop.
The workshop offered Supreme Court Rule 31 listed mediators hands-on training by splitting participants into small groups where they discussed their mediation experiences and conducted mock mediations. Dr. John Peters, Professor of Educational Psychology and Research at the University of Tennessee, led the participants through a series of exercises along with a team of 15 mediators trained in reflective practice techniques for mediators.
The participants also enjoyed an entertaining and informative presentation on detecting deception from Daniel Porter, CFE.
