On Monday, September 17, 2012, on Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, commemorating the 225th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution, MTSU is honored to be the site of a new citizens’ naturalization ceremony on our campus, witnessing the oath of citizenship of 240 new Americans. This is MTSU’s first opportunity to host a citizenship ceremony. We are pleased to partner with the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, USCIS, and the U.S. Marshals Service to provide our spacious venue of Murphy Center not only for our own students but also for the public across Middle Tennessee to share with us in the culmination of the citizenship process that is such a proud cornerstone of the American way of life.
The Honorable Joe E. Brown and the Honorable E. Clarence Knowles, Magistrate Judges, will conduct the official proceedings. Chief Justice Gary R. Wade of the Tennessee Supreme Court has graciously agreed to give the keynote address.
We invite the community and distinguished leaders to celebrate citizenship with us on Constitution Day. The ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m., with a public reading of the Constitution starting at 12:30. The proceedings will also be simulcast online 9/17 at this hotlink: http://itsc3.fsa.mtsu.edu/itsc/flash/.
