Retired Chancellor Frederick D. McDonald of Knoxville passed away on January 25, 2014. He was 85.
Chancellor McDonald, born and raised in Michigan, was a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. During the Korean War, he served in the US. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps in the Pentagon and later in the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea. While he resided in Michigan he served as the area executive director of the Boy Scouts and as the president of the Allegan County Rotary.
Chancellor McDonald moved to Knoxville in 1968 to practice law. He was first appointed to the Knox County Chancery Court in 1973 by Gov. Winfield Dunn and served for 25 years. Chancellor McDonald had presided over several high-profile cases, including the 1982 World's Fair and the collapse of the Butcher brothers' banking empire. Frederick was a past president of the Tennessee State Judicial Conference.
Funeral services The funeral will be on Tuesday, January 28th at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel (6200 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919). Family and friends will then travel in procession to Highland Memorial Cemetery for the interment. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
