Sixth Judicial District Criminal Court Judge Steven W. Sword was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees at his alma mater, King University.
Judge Sword graduated magna cum laude from King in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in History. He is looking forward to his new role at the school, whose main campus is located in Bristol.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to share in the leadership of this great school,” Judge Sword said. “King was established in 1867 with the mission of a rigorous pursuit of academic study in the context of the Christian faith. So many of our institutions have seemingly abandoned the idea of ‘truth’ and core moral values in this current day. This gives schools such as King an added importance to our nation’s pursuit of knowledge.”
The Board of Trustees maintains the legal authority and responsibility for King University’s mission, its financial stability, and institutional policies related to matters of long-term strategic importance.
After graduating from King, Judge Sword went on to receive his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1995.
Governor Bill Haslam appointed Judge Sword to the 6th Judicial District bench in 2011. Judge Sword went on to win election to that position in 2012 and again in 2014.
His wife, Alice Woods Sword, is also a proud King University graduate.
