Seven attorneys have applied to fill the Criminal Court vacancy in the 1st Judicial District, which serves Carter, Johnson, Unicoi and Washington counties. The vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge Lynn W. Brown, effective March 31.

The public hearing will be held at 9 a.m. EST, Friday February 8, 2013 at the DoubleTree in Johnson City, 211 Mockingbird Lane, 37604. During the public hearing, attorneys and members of the public may express their approval of or objections to the candidates.
Following the public hearing, the commission will interview each applicant before recommending three candidates to the governor. Members of the public are invited to attend both the public hearing and the interviews.
