Appellate, trial, general sessions, juvenile, and municipal judges from across the state of Tennessee attended a weeklong training earlier this month in Murfreesboro.
More than 100 judges participated in the sessions as students or teachers, which included information on transitioning from a law practice to the bench, evidence, recent law updates, courtroom security, jury selection, social media, and ethics. There also were breakout sessions for particular areas of the law, such as criminal, civil, juvenile, and municipal.
Instructors included current and former judges and Tennessee Supreme Court justices, law professors and field experts. The Academy also included trips to see a Drug Court and the use of technology in a courtroom.
Most of the 85 judges participating as students will begin September 1, although any judge appointed or elected within the past year was invited to attend.
