The Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury issued the FY 2016-17 Tennessee Judicial Weighted Caseload Study on February 14. The study estimated a net deficit of 9.76 judges across the state based on the FY 2017 data. In the map right, the counties in red show a deficit while the counties in blue show an excess.
The FY 2016 report showed a net deficit of 4.22 full-time equivalent judges while the FY 2015 study showed an overall excess of .78 judges. Overall, filings in FY 2017 increased across the state by 1,093 cases. This includes a 10.5 percent increase in first degree murder cases and a 14.14% increase in Felony A&B cases.
